Tooth extractions
At Advanced Family Dental, our aim is to keep your dentition healthy for as long as possible. However, there are times when you may need to extract your teeth, or those of your child’s. Teeth extraction is also known as teeth removal. There are many reasons for a teeth extraction. A tooth damaged by trauma or decay may be eligible for extraction. An impacted wisdom tooth may also need to be extracted so that it won’t cause problems for you later. Teeth extraction may also be necessary if your child is billed for an orthodontic treatment and doesn’t have enough space for his or her adult teeth – a condition known as crowding.
Tooth extraction is a common procedure. The process of extraction depends on the location of the affected tooth, and the state of its roots. For instance, it is easier to remove the front tooth with one straight root compared with a molar that has multiple roots. This is true especially in the case of an impacted wisdom tooth.
That notwithstanding, at Advanced Family Dental, we have experienced hands and also use the latest technology so you’ve got nothing to be afraid of as regards tooth extraction in Miami. Please note that your tooth is fixed to its surrounding bone in a rigid pattern. It is anchored by a network of fibers known as the periodontal ligament. At Advanced Family Dental, our dentists will manipulate the tooth carefully, and dislodge these fibers, thus freeing your tooth without stress.
What happens during a tooth extraction procedure?
We will begin with a radiographic assessment of the affected tooth and its surroundings. This will help us determine any possible complications. We will also take your medical history to ensure that you’re in good health.
Extraction of a tooth is done under local anesthesia. The anesthesia will numb the affected tooth and its surrounding gum tissues and bones.
We will be careful during the extraction so that we don’t damage the bone surrounding your tooth. The dentist (at his or her discretion) may place a small amount of bone-grafting substance in the socket. This material helps preserve the bone volume. Placement of a bone-grafting material is very important especially if you’ll have need for a dental implant.
Why should you have your tooth extracted?
There are several reasons why you may need a tooth extraction. When you visit us, our dentists will be happy to discuss these reasons with you and help you determine whether you are eligible for an extraction or not. Some of the reasons for tooth extraction include:

After tooth extraction
After the extraction, the dentist will cover the socket with a sterile gauze to prevent bleeding. The gauze applies gentle pressure to the socket for 10-20 minutes thus helping to control the bleeding. You may experience some mild swelling or discomfort after the operation. This is quite normal and will resolve in a short time. Our dentists will prescribe some antibiotics to ensure that you’re not infected.
Tooth extraction is an easy procedure and it’s nothing to be scared of.
